PROJECT
MOVE AS YOU ARE
The context
According to Child Eye Health, globally, at least 450 million children have a vision condition that requires treatment, and 90 million children live with some form of vision loss.
As for Europe, the European Blind Union puts the estimate at 30.000.000 visually impaired people. These figures show that there are many children in need of support throughout Europe and the world.
Children with visual impairment show delays in basic motor skills, including locomotor skills, object control, and balance. All skills learned through motor skills are prerequisites for the development of social skills, emotional functioning, self-determination in orientation and mobility, confidence with technology, independent activities of daily living, and successful life.
Our objectives
The project aims to increase social inclusion and equal opportunities in sports by supporting the participation of visually impaired children in sports activities and supporting their ability to develop motor skills and enhancing their social integration into their living communities.
At the same time, the project aims to raise the confidence and awareness of families of visually impaired children regarding their children’s participation in sports activities and to promote the quality of the coaching staff, physical education teachers, and trainers by providing them with ready-to-use materials and resources to help them involve visually impaired children into sports activities.
